As Country Leader, he is responsible for both operational affairs and business development in the Iberian market with strategic focus in recruitment process outsourcing solutions.

Prior to joining Futurestep, Mr. Fontenla served in another Spanish consultancy company as operations general manager. In this role, he was responsible for managing business development of  the company’s client portfolio. He also managed client services, coordinating multi-position solutions and turn-key selection projects.

Earlier, Mr. Fontenla was country manager for Immoeuro Spain, the former European-based internet company that supplied ASP business-to-business solutions to the real estate industry.

Mr. Fontenla began his career in the human capital industry in 1994 for the Randstad Group, first as a consultant, then as office manager and district manager, and finally in 1999 as operational manager where he carried out the start up of the large-scale service division in Spain.

Over the years, Mr. Fontenla’s work has spanned multiple regions including the Netherlands, the United Kingdom and Singapore. He also served as Navy officer for the Spanish Armed Forces before starting his business career.

Mr. Fontenla received a master’s degree in maritime law from the Instituto Europeo de Estudios Marítimos (IEEM) in Gijón, Spain, and his university law degree from the University of Cádiz. He also earned a master’s degree in commercial and marketing management from Instituto de Empresa (IE) in Madrid.

Mr. Fontenla is fluent in Spanish and English.
