-Third Office in Mainland China to Help Drive Unprecedented Growth and Serve Clients Operating in the Pearl River Delta -
LOS ANGELES, CA and HONG KONG, July 10, 2007 -- Korn/Ferry International (NYSE:KFY), a premier global provider of talent management solutions, today announced the strategic expansion of its operations in the Greater China Region (GCR) with an office in Guangzhou, to better serve clients in the Guangdong Province and across the Pearl River Delta (PRD). Korn/Ferry veterans Messrs. Andrew Tsui and Mike Bekins will serve as Chairman, Hong Kong and Managing Director, Hong Kong, respectively. Mr. Jimmy Ho, senior client partner, will be charged with building Korn/Ferry’s Southern China business. These moves coincide with a reported 42 percent increase in the Firm’s GCR business in FY07, and a 37 percent increase in its dedicated GCR staff.
“Continuing our pioneering history in China, we will be the first global search firm to have a physical presence in Guangdong, the country’s largest provincial economy and its most important manufacturing base,” said Gary Burnison, chief executive officer, Korn/Ferry. “The need for senior executives who are globally minded, creative and innovative is steadily increasing throughout China, especially in the high-tech and services sectors that are flourishing in the PRD’s key industrial centers. Our ability to help companies attract and develop such leaders will be critical for the sub-region to realize its long-term potential.”
“As part of our ongoing Emerging Markets Initiative, we have invested strategically and aggressively in our Greater China operations to keep up with client demand,” said Charles Tseng, president, Korn/Ferry, Asia Pacific. “Under the leadership of Andrew, Mike and Jimmy, we will be able to blend a deep understanding of the local business culture with the global perspective that is needed to guide our clients from around the world through the next period of growth in Southern China.”
New China Management
We have operated in the GCR for almost three decades, having established a presence in Hong Kong in 1978 and opening our first representative offices in Beijing and Shanghai in 1995 and 1997 respectively. We were awarded sino-foreign joint venture status by the Personnel Bureaus in Beijing (2002) and then Shanghai (2003). Responding to client needs and reflecting the growing importance of the GCR to our business worldwide, we relocated our regional leadership to Shanghai in early 2005.
Our team of 30 talent management consultants comprising mainland Chinese, returnees and international expatriates deliver strategic guidance leveraging the Firm’s global network of 490 consultants as well as their personal insights into the China market and understanding of their individual sector and functional specialties. In 2005 and 2006, Korn/Ferry was ranked among the “Top 10 Chinese HR Organizations” by China HR Net.
