LOS ANGELES, August 7, 2007 -- Korn/Ferry International (NYSE:KFY), a premier global provider of talent management solutions, today announced that two education industry leaders – Stephen Joel Trachtenberg and Kenneth L. Kring – have joined the firm’s Education Practice.
Mr. Trachtenberg, most recently President of The George Washington University, joins Korn/Ferry’s Washington, DC office as Chairman of the North American Education Practice, where he will leverage his decades of higher education experience to work with search committees and boards of the country’s most respected institutions to identify, recruit and develop leadership talent. Mr. Kring joins Korn/Ferry from Heidrick & Struggles as a Senior Client Partner and Managing Director of the North American Education Practice, based in Philadelphia. In this role, he will manage a national team overseeing the recruitment of presidents, chancellors, provosts, commissioners and deans for colleges and universities in both the non-profit and for-profit arenas, in addition to educational publishing, educational services and other key areas of the education spectrum.
“Ken and Steve’s diverse backgrounds – Ken in executive search and Steve as a long admired university president – complement each other tremendously and their appointments represent a continued commitment by Korn/Ferry to enhance our resources in education, which is fast becoming a trillion-dollar industry in North America,” said Gary Burnison, CEO of Korn/Ferry. “Their individual experience is augmented by the firm’s broader, integrated capability to provide a suite of talent management offerings – from board services to executive coaching, succession planning, interim solutions and compensation consulting – to clients.”
“Educational institutions are facing a sea change brought on by demographic trends,” said Paul C. Reilly, Chairman of Korn/Ferry. “This will require new and innovative solutions to their human capital challenges, which our Education Practice is ideally positioned to provide.”
“Steve and I are fortunate to have this outstanding opportunity to serve the increasing needs of institutions in this sector,” said Mr. Kring. “Our practice knits together, under one firm, the resources to support specialization in not-for-profit higher education and post-secondary for-profit education, along with educational publishing, educational services, corporate training and other key areas of the education spectrum.”
Mr. Trachtenberg was President of The George Washington University from 1988 until 2007. He will combine his role at Korn/Ferry with his continued responsibilities at the university as President Emeritus and University Professor of Public Service. Earlier, Mr. Trachtenberg was President of the University of Hartford and Vice President for Academic Services and Academic Dean of the College of Liberal Arts at Boston University. He has been an attorney with the U.S. Atomic Energy Commission and is a member of the New York State Bar. He holds a bachelor’s degree from Columbia University, a juris doctorate from Yale University and a master’s degree in public administration from Harvard University.
In his more than two decades of executive search experience, Mr. Kring has recruited more than 250 senior-level executives and board directors for leading institutions in the not-for-profit and private sectors, with a specific emphasis on supporting organizations with an education mission. He was most recently with Heidrick & Struggles, where he founded that firm’s Philadelphia office in 1997. He also previously served as Regional Managing Partner and Managing Partner of the New York office. Mr. Kring’s career in executive search spans stints with other major firms, including serving as CEO of Diversified Search Companies and as a Senior Partner with Spencer Stuart.
