Senior Client Partner, Global Industrial Markets, Automotive Leader, Asia Pacific
Mr. Thomson has more than 20 years' experience in Consulting, Professional Services and the Automotive sector, gained in both developed and emerging markets. Prior to joining Korn Ferry, he spent 18 years with KPMG where, based on his background in Management Consulting, he ultimately became both the firm's Head of Automotive for China and the Asia Pacific (ASPAC) Region, as well as Deputy Chief Operating Officer for ASPAC. In this latter role, he participated as an Asia Pacific Board member and member of the Regional Executive Committee, managing the firm's business across Asia, developing strategy and ensuring effective execution across functions and geographies. In 2010, he co-developed KPMG's Global High Growth and Emerging Markets Strategy.
Mr. Thomson's experience in Automotive dates back to the period 1994-1999, when he spent time working in Russia. He was based in Moscow, but worked extensively across the country with a range of auto and industrial manufacturing and parts companies, as well as with a major truck OEM. This project lasted for nearly 2 years and involved deep organisational, operational and financial restructuring of the business.
He moved to Asia in 1999, and first spent time in both Singapore and Thailand, where he led KPMG's Business Advisory Services practice, before moving to Shanghai in January 2005 and Hong Kong from late 2010.
Mr. Thomson was appointed as KPMG's China Head of Automotive in 2008, and took on the ASPAC leadership role, in addition, in August 2012. His responsibilities included representing China and ASPAC on the firm's Global Automotive Steering Group, leading product, service and thought leadership development initiatives in Automotive worldwide.
Mr. Thomson has produced a number of China and Asia-specific research and opinion papers, covering issues across the Automotive value chain, and is a frequent conference speaker. His key interest is in driving next practices, and finding and developing people who can both manage the ‘day-to-day’ and at the same time design the future.
