The Rules of Engagement

Occupational engagement reflects the extent to which executives are satisfied with their jobs, emotionally invested in their careers, and whether they will expend discretionary effort for their employer. This attribute is crucial to company performance, and yet recent studies have found low engagement levels among more than 70 percent of the U.S. workforce.

It turns out that a specific mix of traits that Korn/Ferry can easily measure—Empathy, a Social Leadership Style, Tolerance for Ambiguity, and Learning Agility—predict high engagement levels. In fact, those who score well on those attributes are five times more likely to be highly engaged than other executives.
