Sometime back, noted author and consultant Ram Charan made an observation about HR that generated some interesting reactions - and when I say interesting, I mean heated. He concluded that the HR function needs to be split into 2 – one focusing on the day to day administration of HR policy (HR-Administration) and the other focused on linking strategy to key talent challenges and developing leaders for the future (HR-Leadership and Organization). His proposal was focused on the fact that the skillsets required for these roles are completely different, and therefore, unrealistic to find both skillsets in the same person (CHRO).
While Ram Charan’s proposal was met with extreme opposition from parts of the HR community, I do feel that he is on to something profound.
