Korn Ferry Canada’s Board Practice is the largest and most successful Director Recruitment team in Canada. Having recruited hundreds of directors to Canadian companies, we have developed a comprehensive knowledge of the Canadian boardroom. To help clients ensure highly effective governance for their shareholders, we offer a broad range of services, including:
- Director recruitment (single search and multi-year, strategic candidate attraction)
- CEO succession planning
- Board composition consulting
- Board Chair succession planning
- Board effectiveness consulting (through our strategic partner, Patrick O’Callaghan)
From our offices in Montreal, Toronto, Calgary, and Vancouver, we serve clients from coast-to-coast and across all industry sectors. Over the past five years alone we have recruited more than 125 directors for Canadian companies. Of those directors, 29% came from outside of Canada, and 31% were diversity appointments.
We have a deep understanding of governance issues in Canada. In concert with Patrick O’Callaghan and Associates, we produce our governance report, Corporate Board Governance and Director Compensation in Canada, on an annual basis. This report is the most comprehensive overview of governance issues in Canada, and is recognized as the go-to source of information for boards across the country. Since 2001, we have included a Special Report in each edition that explores a governance issue of interest to Canadian directors. Every year we meet personally with over 100 Canadian directors to gain their perspectives and opinions.
WE KNOW TOP TALENT
For every engagement, your team is hand-selected from our Canadian network who know your business and industry.
WOMEN IN THE BOARDROOM
We have placed 39 women on Canadian boards in the past 5 years (31% of all placements). Recruiting women for Canadian boards has been a significant theme for the past 10 years, and has been heightened since the Ontario Securities Commission amendments to disclosure requirements regarding representation of women on boards. Through the course of our work, we have identified hundreds of women in Canada with the credentials required for boards and have learned of their preferences, skills, abilities, and capacity to serve.
Approximately one-third of our board recruitment has an audit committee orientation (finding and sourcing candidates with credentials that allow them to immediately join a board’s Audit Committee and/or are likely to be considered for Audit Committee Chair in the future). We have identified a comprehensive pool of highly qualified financial experts and CEOs who have audit committee capability.
Close to a third of searches over the last five years have come from outside Canada (primarily the US). Our ability to identify and attract international executives to Canadian boards is a primary strength; we work with our US and international Board Practice and our industry experts to identify highly qualified candidates for Canadian boards.
