Pick the people with the ability to perform

Ability Assessments

Research suggests that ability tests – which measure a candidate’s ability to carry out different tasks – are one of the best predictors of how someone will perform in an entry-level, graduate, professional or managerial role. In fact, they’re much more effective and fair at doing this than traditional methods, such as looking at educational qualifications.

That’s one reason why employers increasingly use ability tests as the first step to assess large numbers of applicants. But the approach brings other benefits, too.

Fast, fair and objective

Our unique adaptive methodology means that our ability tests adapt in real time, becoming more difficult in line with how well the participant responds to each question.

This allows everyone to perform to the best of their ability. And it allows you to identify those with the most potential to succeed – irrespective of their background.

It also means our approach is more cheat-resistant, as exposure to different test combinations are based on individual responses. Quicker to administer and manage than long application forms, ability tests are an effective way to free you up to focus on the later stages in the process.

We measure four kinds of ability:

  • Verbal - Measures the ability to interpret verbal information and reach correct conclusions.
This will matter: if the job involves communicating ideas effectively or analytical thinking.
  • Numerical - Measures the ability to analyze and draw inferences from numerical information and data.
This will matter: in any role where data is important.
  • Logical - Measures the ability to analyze abstract information and apply this in determining outcomes and patterns.
This will matter: if the job requires complex problem solving.
  • Checking - Measures the ability to quickly and accurately detect errors in data.
This will matter: if checking and comparing is a big part of the role.

We offer different assessment solutions, depending on the level and type of role.

  1. For the recruitment of frontline, customer-facing and service roles: our solution includes verbal, numerical and checking test options.
  2. For any other recruitment or development activities our solution may suggest verbal, numerical and logical test options.

Our solutions are flexible, meaning that you can choose to assess one or all three elements to meet your specific needs. Whatever combination you choose, our ability tests are one of a core set of components which provide a holistic view of the participants likely fit to the role.
