Senior Assessment Manager

John R. Ashburn Jr., Ph.D., is the Senior Manager of Assessment Services for Korn Ferry.  His focus is on supporting leadership assessment in all sectors of the professional search space for North America.

Dr. Ashburn administers, interprets, and provides feedback on Korn Ferry’s proprietary leadership assessment tool.  In this role he also works with clients in the development of occupational profiles used to benchmark candidates. 

Prior to joining Korn Ferry Dr. Ashburn spent over 20 years in the United States Navy, first working in the Intelligence Community and later as a commissioned officer/psychologist.  Dr. Ashburn’s assignments included tours of duty at Bethesda Naval Hospital, the National Security Agency, serving aboard several submarines, and having multiple overseas deployments including to Afghanistan.  He provided briefings to uniformed and civilian leadership on a variety of topics including return-to-work policies and how operational stress impacts individual performance and organizational outcomes.

Most recently, Dr. Ashburn served as Director of Psychological Evaluation Services with the NYPD.  In that role, Dr. Ashburn led a group of psychologists who provided consultative and emergency services.  In addition, Dr. Ashburn provided NYPD executive leadership consultation on a variety of topics including the provision of mental health services and critical incident policies.  His professional experience also includes executive level work in the not-for-profit sector and teaching psychology at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.

Dr. Ashburn earned his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in psychology from the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences and earned a graduate certificate in executive and professional coaching from Lewis University.  Dr. Ashburn is a licensed psychologist in New York State.  In addition, Dr. Ashburn is an Associate Certified Coach with the International Coaching Federation.
