Korn Ferry for the third year has conducted its “Class of” research into new non-executive directors, identifying year-over-year movements that indicate the direction of change for NED recruitment in the UK’s largest companies.

This year’s report, with a foreword by Lady Barbara Judge CBE, chairman of the Institute of Directors, analyses the profiles of the 234 people gaining their first NED seat among the FTSE 350—and thus by inference, illustrates the characteristics likely to be in high demand in NED recruitment in the short and medium term.

We also surveyed members of this Class of 2014 to gain insights about their experiences of becoming NEDs. This data is complemented by interviews that provide a more in-depth picture of the individuals’ career history and progression.
