Associate Client Partner, ESG and Organizational Strategy & Leadership

Rajen Makhijani brings a 360-stakeholder view, and ecosystem approach in serving clients on their ESG, Sustainability and Purpose agenda. He has diverse experience advising leaders in business, society, politics, bureaucracy, UN, private equity, foundations, family businesses and academia. Having served MNCs, and local clients across two dozen countries in Asia and Africa, he also serves as the voice of emerging markets, on matters of sustainability and ESG.

Rajen works with clients in three areas - behaviour shift, structural change and change / communications. First, in the area of mindset and behaviour shifts, he has worked with hundreds of leaders, using a variety of approaches that take a deep approach into the being of a leader. Second, on structural and systemic change, his approach is grounded in fact-based problem solving, from his experience in top-tier strategy consulting firms. Finally, his work seeks to evoke hearts not just minds. As an award nominated screenwriter of four full length movies (two of which are on Netflix) he embeds the skills of powerful story telling into evoking large-scale change for clients.

His relevant client work includes Governance review for an emerging markets PE fund, inclusive business investment opportunities for Asian Development Bank, low emission business models identification for USAID, leadership assessment for Humanitarian agency and impact assessment for an infrastructure company. 

Rajen’s career history includes being a McKinsey consultant; Founder and Global Head of Dalberg Consulting’s Global Talent & Leadership practice Singapore; Country Director University of Chicago Tata Centre for Development and International Innovation Corps, India to serve. He also founded a boutique consultancy, Leadership By Results.

Rajen’s thought leadership includes being a two-time TEDx speaker (~235,000 views); an author with an extensive chapter “Leadership by Results for Impact Investors and Investees” in The Global Handbook of Impact Investing: Smarter Capital Markets to Address Global Problems for Sustainable Society (John Wiley & Sons USA, Feb 2021); contributor for BusinessWorld, Huffington Post, Next Billion, and India Development Review. He was on the jury of News Television Awards, for the Environmental and Social categories, 2021. He is a part of the core design and delivery team of “Lead Like Gandhi”, conducted at the Gandhi Ashram.

Rajen has 21 years of experience. He earned his MBA from Indian Institute of Management Calcutta (IIMC), and his Bachelors in Commerce from the University of Mumbai in 2000. He completed short courses: “Business of Sustainability” from INSEAD Singapore (2015) and Principles of Sustainable Finance, University of Rotterdam (2020). He is enrolled into CFA’s Level 4 program, “Certificate in ESG Investing”.
